"Grey" is a 24 year old Gleaner from Old Sharlayan. He can be described as worldly and pragmatic, but can also be abit of a wallflower in social interactions. He loves being out with others and seeing the nightlife, but prefers to watch from the side rather than being the center of attention. Due to his work, he is traveling around Hydaelyn constantly and is very well travelled. He has a passion for the Far East in particular and frequents his personal visits there.His demeanor can be quite reserved around people that he doesn't know well. Grey is very respectful to others and is extremely polite. He can be awkward at times and sometimes uses silence or acts overly polite as his reply to situations where he's unsure of how to respond.

Background

Found as an infant by a Gleaner travelling through a post-war Dalmasca, Grey was brought back to Old Sharlayan and raised as a ward of the court. He grew up in an orphanage until he was 16 and began to study for his Gleaning Exams.During his time there, a young Raen girl was brought back to the orphanage under similar circumstances to himself. Feeling a kinship to her, he took her under his wing, determined to give her the opportunities she had lost. He formed a close sibling relationship to the young girl, Sumire becoming the family he never had.Upon passing his tests and certifications, he eagerly began his exploration of the world beyond Sharlayan's tiny island.In the beginning of his journeys, Grey was naturally curious about his Viera heritage and didn't hesitate to ask any Viera he came across about their knowledge of their shared motherland. After more than a few unfortunate situations, he realized that most refugees from the Garlean conquest did not come into as fortuitous circumstances as he did and he began to close himself off from others; focusing solely on his work.During one of his trips, he passed through the city of Kugane and stumbled across one of the dojos during the evening. Curious, he watched a large group of aspiring swordsmen diligently working on their technique and was interested enough to inquire. He was struck by their passion to not only improve their bladework and physicality, but also bettering themselves mentally in quieting their inner turmoil. Inspired, Grey joined them, beginning his appreciation for Eastern culture that seemed so distant from his own.Currently, Grey has taken up a part time job at a speakeasy bar in the Empyreum. He's adjusting to opening his heart to others, but he's happy to have made so many new friends and is working on doing the same for his sister Sumire.

  • Heritage : Grey did not grow up with the culture and values of the Viera people. He's an outsider and is curious to know more, but due to previous conversations, understands it can be a sore speaking point for most that have left the homeland.

  • Time : Grey's greatest fear is his near immortality to time. He doesn't share the same concept of time as other Viera due to being raised apart from them and it pains him to think that he will inevitably outlive his sister and his friends by hundreds of years.
